Subject: Ghost Story #11-6/13/97- The ghost of The Sugarhill James Gang

Hey there

3 days to Vegas....swarms of Clusterflies buzzing around my head....the
spontaneous human combustion in the midst of the second set on Thursday
will
undoubtedly be mine....though I doubt it will take that long.....In the
words of messrs. Scott and Young......

I'm going in to sin city
I'm gonna win in sin city
Where the lights are bright
Do the town tonight
I'm gonna win in sin city

I'm certain there will be a Ghost in Vegas.....I'll have a first hand Ghost
Story on Sunday....for now...The first Ghost (other than the one at Brad's
house)....from the land bereft of snakes

Ghost Story #11- 6/13/97 Set 2: The S.F.X Center Dublin, Eireeeee
The Ghost of the Sugarhill James Gang

The exact start of this Ghost is open to debate. Much like the Stash>Ghost
from 6/19 and the YEM>Ghost from Lyon there is a definite Ghostliness to
the
last 3 or 4 minutes of the segue Jam out of a really cool chalkdust.  This
chalkdust alone is worth a listen. It makes me wonder what the rest of the
show was like (I only have this as filler on my starlake thanks again to
CDirk420). The Chalkdust Jam has a real remain in light feel to it, some
bizarre noises hchchhchsshskinginkin and effects, which flow fairly
smoothly
into space funk delight.

For convention sake this Ghost begins at the undeniable first chords of
Ghost which are lifted directly from the Sugarhill Gang's rapper's delight
if I'm hearing things right. The prologue is as usual lyrically flubless.
The verse break is old skool rappacious funk with a definite rapper's
delight groove. The prologue comes to a close at or around the typical 3:00
minute mark. The Ghost Story in this case is short and sweet. Typical of
the
Ghosts that come out of a segue, the jam in the story, suffers at the hands
of the previous segue. By suffers I mean it is brief in comparison. It is
"delightful" however. A great groove for a first time in front of a paying
crowd.  Grandmaster G is dropping bombs and plenty of classic Herr Necklace
wah wah waah waaahhs's. The funk gives way to some balls out rock and roll
as the boys switch GANG's from sugar hill to James Gang....this very easily
could have segued into Walk Away but chooses not to. Instead it slides into
oblivious fool.

A gang fight Master's of Fu style....everybody was kung fu fighting
